Kumu Hula Kaʻilihiwa Vaughan-Darval (カイリヒヴァ・ヴァーン・ダーヴァル)
2006年11月、クム・フラ・アリソン・カイリヒヴァ・カハイピイラニ・「ヒヴァ」・ヴァーン・ダーヴァルは、ハラウ・フラ・カ・レフア・トゥアヒネを設立しました。1995年、栄えあるミス・アロハ・フラを受賞しています。クム・ヒヴァは、3歳からフラの生徒として、最も尊敬されるクム・フラであるレイモミ・ホ、チンキー・マホエ、マエ・ウラリア・ローベンスタイン、マエ・カママル・クラインなどから学びます。クム・フラ・マエ・ローベンスタインとクム・フラ・マエ・クラインの指導の下で多くの時間を過ごし、ハラウ・フラ・カ・レフア・トゥアヒネで、尊敬されるこの2人のフラの系統が伝えているものに敬意を払い、これまで指導を受けたどのクム・フラからも学んだフラやハワイ文化に対する愛情に全力を注いでいます。
ハラウ・フラ・カ・レフア・トゥアヒネでは、アリイが作曲したメレとハワイで愛される作曲家による由緒あるメレに特化して学んでいます。ハラウのモットーは、「あなたの目指すものは何か」です。ハラウの一人一人が自分の目標を立て、個人として又グループとして高めていけるよう導いています。クム・ヒヴァが願うのは、生徒たちがハラウでのレッスンや経験をそれぞれの人生に応用すること、その結果、生徒たちが成長し、ハラウだけでなくそれぞれの社会でプラスの変化をおこす人となることです。
長年、数えきれないほど多くの地域のイベントやフェスティバル、コンサートに参加しているだけでなく、クム・ヒヴァのハラウは、キング・カメハメハ・チャント・アンド・フラ・コンペティション、ワールド・インビテーショナル・フラ・フェスティバル、モキハナ・フェスティバル、クムカヒ・ウクレレ・アンド・フラ・フェスティバル、そして世界的に有名なメリー・モナーク・フェスティバルなどの競技会で、オリ、カヒコ、アウアナの部門で数多くの受賞をしています。
Hālau Hula Ka Lehua Tuahine was founded in November 2006 by Kumu Hula Allison Kaʻilihiwa Kahaʻipiʻilani “Hiwa” Vaughan-Darval, who also holds the esteemed title of Miss Aloha Hula 1995.A student of hula since the age of 3, Kumu Hiwa learned from some of hula’s most respected kumu hula including Leimomi Ho, Chinky Mahoe, Mae Ulalia Loebenstein, and Mae Kamāmalu Klein. Having spent the most time under the tutelage of Kumu Hula Mae Loebenstein and Kumu Hula Mae Klein, Kumu Hiwa has focused her efforts with Hālau Hula Ka Lehua Tuahine on honoring the legacies of these two venerable hula lineages as well as the collective love for hula and Hawaiian culture that all of her kumu share.
Hālau Hula Ka Lehua Tuahine is dedicated to sharing the mele composed by our aliʻi as well as the time-honored mele of Hawaiʻi’s beloved composers. The hālau’s motto, “He aha kāu pahu hopu?” (“What is your goal?”) encourages and challenges each member of the hālau to set goals for themselves to improve and further themselves, both as individuals and as a group. It is Kumu Hiwa’s hope that her students will apply the lessons and experiences they have as students in her hālau to their lives and that this will help to them to grow and become contributors of positive change not just in hālau, but in their respective communities.
In addition to their participation in countless community events, festivals, and concerts through the years, the hālau has also received numerous awards for their participation in oli, kahiko, and ʻauana categories in competitions including King Kamehameha Chant and Hula Competition, World Invitational Hula Festival,Mokihana Festival, Kumukahi ʻUkulele and Hula Festival, and the world-renowned Merrie Monarch Festival.
