Kumu Hula Manu Boyd (マヌ・ボイド)
40年前の1978年、マヌ・ボイド は、クム・フラ・ロバート・ウルベヒ・カジメロのハウマナ（生徒）として、フラを始めました。その後数十年にわたり、ブラザーズ・カジメロの素晴らしい音楽に触れ、指導を受けた結果、ミュージシャン、編曲家、歌手、チャンター、歴史家、そしてクム・フラになりました。
現在は、カラカウア王の治世であった1884年にバーニス・パウアヒ・ビショップ王女のご意向により設立されたカメハメハ・スクールで、文化コンサルタントをしています。ハワイ人が通うこの私学の卒業生でもあり、また、オアフ島カネワイにあるハワイ大学マノア校カマカクオカラニ・ハワイアン・スタディーズ・センターを卒業しています。
1986年、ハワイ音楽グループ、ホオケナを共同で立ち上げ、数多くの賞を受賞しています。ナ・ホク・ハノハノ・アワードを何度も受賞し、グラミー賞に2度ノミネートされています。ハワイ語で詩的な作曲をする伝統的なスタイル、ハク・メレを、得意としています。
20年以上、メリー・モナーク・フラ・フェスティバルをテレビで紹介する番組及び毎年開催されるカメハメハ・スクール・ソング・コンテストの司会と文化コメンテーターを（自身が競技者でなく又他のハラウのために歌わない時は）務めています。
クム・マヌのハラウ・オ・ケ・アアリイ・ク・マカニは、6年連続で、メリー・モナーク・フェスティバルで入賞しています。2012年は、ワヒネの部で、総合優勝をしました。また、総合3位を2度受賞しています。
キャリアの中で重きを置いているのは、コミュニケーションと文化を教えることです。ハワイ語に堪能で、歴史家として尊敬を集めており、司会者であり、ハワイ人社会のリーダーでもあります。カメハメハ・スクールで現職に就く前は、ワイキキのヘルモアにあるロイヤル・ハワイアン・センターで文化ディレクターを務め、ハワイ人問題事務局で、通信担当ディレクター、出版物編集者、文化スペシャリストを務めていました。
ヌウアヌ・マエマエ在住で、カメハメハ王朝やカラカウア王朝に縁のあるハワイの由緒ある一族、 ボイド家、クレッグホーン家、ハーボトル家、アダムス家、マヌ家、カベロ家の子孫です。現在、クム・マヌは、ハワイアン・シビック・クラブ ホノルル本部のペレキケナ（本部長）をしています。ハワイアン・シビック・クラブは、1918年、ハワイ王国及びリリウオカラニ女王の統治が違法に、道義に反する形で、不当に崩壊される中、ネイティブ・ハワイアンの社会経済的・文化的幸福の向上のために、ジョナ・クヒオ・カラニアナ・オレ王子により設立されました。
クム・フラ・ロバート・カジメロ（マイキ・アイウ・レイク 卒業生）のハウマナとして40年学ぶほか、フラの年長者及びマスターとして崇拝されるパット・ナマカ・ベーコン、カウぺナ・ウォン、エディス・マッキンジー、ナラニ・カナカオレ、プア・カナへレ、マヒ・ビーマー、ホロウア・ステンダーなどからも指導を受けています。

40years ago, in 1978, Manu Boyd started as a haumāna (student) of Kumu Hula Robert Uluwehi Cazimero, Decades of amazing performances with the Brothers Cazimero and musical training have resulted in Manuʻs capacity as a musician, arranger, singer, chanter, historian, and Kumu hula.
Currently, Manu Boyd serves as Cultural Consultant for Kamehameha Schools, founded by Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop by her will in 1884 during the reign of King Kalākaua. Manu is a graduate of this private school for Hawaiian descendants, as well as the University of Hawaiʻi Kamakakūokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies at Kānewai, Mānoa, Oʻahu.
In 1986, Manu co-founded the award-winning Hawaiian music recording group, Hoʻokena – multiple winners of the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, and two-time nominee for the Grammy Awards. Haku mele or Hawaiian language poetic composition in the traditional style is Manuʻs specialty.
For more than 20 years, Manu has served as a TV broadcast host and cultural commentator for the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival（when heʻs not entered in the competition or singing for other hālau）, as well as the annual Kamehameha Schools Song Contest.
In six years of competition at the Merrie Monarch Festival, Manu Boydʻs Hālau o ke ‘A’aliʻi Kū Makani placed in every year they entered. In 2012, Manuʻs hālau hula won the 1st place overall trophy in the wahine division. The hālau also place 3rd overall two times.
Communications and cultural educations is the focus of Manuʻs career. He is fluent in ‘ōlelo Hawai’i and is a respected historian, master of ceremonies, and a leader in the Hawaiian community. Prior to his current position at Kamehameha Schools, he cultural director at Royal Hawaiian Center at Helumoa in Waikīkī; and communications director, publications editor and cultural specialist at the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
Manu Boyd lives at Maʻemaʻe, Nuʻuanu, and is a descendant of prominent families in Hawai’i including Boyd, Cleghorn, Harbottle, Adams, Manu and Kawelo – all affiliates of the Kamehameha and Kalākaua Dynasties. Manu currently serves as the Pelekikena (president) of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu, founded in 1918 by Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole to advance the socio-economic and cultural well-being of Native Hawaiians in the wake of the illegal, immoral and unjust overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi and its sovereign, Queen Lili’uokalani.
Besides being a 40-year haumāna of Kumu Hula Rober Cazimero (a Maiki Aiu Lake graduate), he has also learned from such revered elders/masters as Pat Nāmaka Bacon, Ka’upena Wong, Edith McKinzie, Nālani Kanakaʻole, Pua Kanahele, Mahi Beamer and Holoua Stender.
